What OS are you on?
On Mac one certainly can change files’ names in the Finder.
Hi- I'm using 10.4.11. So do you mean the change will be permanent and I won't somehow mess up the file?

What makes you ask that?
If you change the filename extension you can naturally cause problems as the file format can then be mis-identified.
I'm just highlighting and changing the name part. I'm leaving the .psd alone. I have a whole bunch of files wrongly named and doing searches to find stuff is proving difficult at times. So I want to correct the names but without opening the files. Some of them are very large and that would take too long.
I just don't want to take all that time retyping new names just to find out later that the names reverted back to the incorrect ones after I shut down my computer or something.
I'm worried about messing up files because I found a file this morning that is a .psd file but Photoshop tells me it is not and won't open it. It has a normal preview image like my other files. So I was worried that maybe that is what could happen by messing with the file name by just typing a new one. I don't know what I did to mess up this file though- not sure I messed with the name.
Thanks for taking the time to reply!
