duplicate from the bin, not the sequence. that help?
Easier to just Option drag the title in the timeline.
Sorry, I should have explained that I am an extreme novice and that I am using Elements, not Pro. What is the Bin versus the Sequence? seascapekw, would this allow me to have the text change at set moments throughout?

Let me move your post then.
So, can anyone out there give me some tips about how to label changing days in a time-lapse sequence in Elements? I wanted to use titles -- with a different title card for each image -- but that wasn't working because I couldn't use the Duplicate function. I'm open to there being a better way.
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
Without that information, I can only generalize.
Here goes the generalization using the model of Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer.
Go to the title that you want to duplicate in the Project Assets. In Project Assets, right click the thumbnail for the title and select Duplicate.
Then drag the duplicate title to the Timeline. The duplicate will have name other than the original so you will not run into unwanted changing of titles to all the same.
Repeat for each of your dates.
Please let us know if that works for you.
I just saw your post 5 after I posted (post 6).
Do my comments on Duplicate allow you to reconsider your original thoughts of using a one second title file for each of the dates?
The Duplicate (from within the Project Assets) method is working great. Thanks!
Great great news. Thanks for the follow up. Great job in sorting through the troubleshooting.
