The only Adobe-supplied profile I’m seeing for an A850 is Adobe Standard.
What other profiles are you talking about?
Sony DSLR-A850 Faithful.dcp
Sony DSLR-A850 Landscape.dcp
Sony DSLR-A850 Neutral.dcp
Sony DSLR-A850 Portrait.dcp
Sony DSLR-A850 Standard.dcp
Sony DSLR-A850 Vivid.dcp
which are all in the folder C:Program Date/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles/Camera/Sony A850
All these used to be available in Camera Raw on the tab for Camera calibration - Camera profiles.
I don’t see any of these on either my Windows 7 or Windows 8 computer in that normal ACR profiles location. Both have PS-CC/ACR8.4 so maybe they used to be there and were removed?
However, if they are valid profiles you can probably get them to work by putting them in the user-customer-profiles folder:
%APPDATA% = C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming
I have over a dozen custom-created profiles in this folder and both Photoshop and Lightroom see them all.
A few years back it wasn't this way, but more recently Adobe recognizes which profiles are theirs and will ignore any others in the Adobe profile area, but it expects to see others in the user-custom-profile area, so move the .dcp files over there.
Did your A850 profiles come from a third party like these:
The profiles (.dcp files) are all in C:ProgramData/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles
The C:ProgramData/Adobe/CameraRaw/ folder contains two sub-folders: AdobeStandard, and CameraProfiles
The folder also contains an index.dat file
Camera Raw definitely reads this index file; if I move it, then Camera Raw does not even show "Adobe Standard" as a profile. It only shows "Matrix" which must be some sort of default.
The index.dat file has lots of Camera profiles listed in it, including many Sony Cameras, but not my A850.
It looks to me like some update has installed an old index.dat file from a time before there was support for the A850 perhaps, or there was an incomplete index.dat file in an update by mistake.
If I move the index file and run Camera Raw it dies not rebuild the index.
I have tried downloading the CameraRaw 8.4 update for Windows 7, but it does not install any files in the C:ProgramData/Adobe/CameraRaw/ directory.
Simply put, I have the .dcp files, which used to work, but the fault in the index.dat file is now making them inviisible.
I copied the two folders (AdobeStandard and CameraProfiles) (but not the accompanying index.dat) from C:ProgramData/Adobe/CameraRaw/ to C:Users/Guy/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw
Now it works.
I can only assume that the folders were moved or deleted by an Adobe Update, but we can now mark this as fixed.
Thank you for your help
The Adobe Standard is what Adobe has supplied, and that should probably remain in the folder where it was in case Adobe actually updates it.
The other CameraXXXXX profiles are from somewhere else, apparently.
