Thanks for the point in the right direction.
"Important: Educational versions of Adobe-branded products are not eligible for a transfer of license. You can, however, transfer educational versions of Macromedia-branded products to a new owner."
Therefore my Master Collection is going to sit on my shelf going to no use, such a shame!
on the other hand I remember, that Adobe said it is possible to "transfer". In these cases the new owner can prove that he fullfils the criteria (student, aso.) BUT sorry, at the moment I can't find the reference to the source text. Maybe this too will help you.
It does seem strange that students should be excluded in this way, thanks for the heads up I'll maybe contact Adobe directly to see if I can get a resolution.
To anyone reading this seeking information, below is conversation with Adobe re subject...

Khaderkhan: Hello! Welcome to Adobe Customer Service.
Khaderkhan: Hi Rob.
Rob Maclese: hi I have student copies of Creative Suite Master CS4 & CS5 Student licence I would like to sell, can I and if so how?!
Khaderkhan: I will check and assist you with the transfer of license.
Khaderkhan: Rob, you will not be able to transfer or sell the educational version serial numbers to a different person.
Rob Maclese: That seems incredibly unfair, I spent hundreds of pounds of these and if not student versions I would be able to, can a lodge a complaint re this subject?
Khaderkhan: Please allow me a minute so that I can check to assist you further.
