"Playback Settings" has been the location for the user to select from one of two 24p Conversion Methods
Repeat Frame (ABBCD)
and
Interlaced Frames (2:3:3:2)
You can see this in versions of Premiere Pro and Premiere Elements.
I understand the concept of Interlaced Frames choice here (seen as the Adobe default) where fields are generated from the progressive frames in the cadence described online and elsewhere. The expected result from using Interlaced Frames Method would seem to be to conversion of 24pDV to a 29.97i frame
rate via the 2:3:3:2 pulldown's instruction to the external NTSC device connected to the setup.
But, it is not clear to me what the result is when the The Repeat Frame method is selected before import of the 24pDV. It appears to be 24p to 29.97, but is the 29.97 interlaced or progressive?
In the Repeat Frame Method, it looks like the 2nd frame of the ABCD set is duplicated to give 5 frames (ABBCD) and that sequence repeated 6 times gives the 29.97. In such a scheme, I can envision that as 29.97 progressive frames per second, but not 29.97 interlaced frames per second.
Any insights in the 24p Conversion Methods would be appreciated.
Thank you.
