    Director fails to launch

This issue concerns Director MX 2004 10.1.1 on Mac OS 10.4.10 (G5 DP PPC, lots of RAM) (and previous versions) - after running for a while, Dir quits spontaneously - just quits - even if it's not the foreground app - then subsequently fails to launch. Symptoms: excessively long "bouncing" perions in the Dock - then stops bouncing but no interface elements appear - then disappears from the Dock. No error message -- nothing written to console logs (system. console, crash reporter) that I can find. Only solution: restart the *@(&$* computer. With a lot of apps and documents open, this is a good 15 minutes out of my working day.
Is there some dependent background process (e.g. licensing) that has crashed and needs to be restarted? (again, no clues in the console logs)
