Metadata TAGS - What's the Purpose?

Gang,

My editorial staff has been wondering what purpose, if any, these metadata tags serve. Our former project coordinator was in touch with ADOBE DPS representatives last year at which point they told her that the tags would serve some purpose "soon". It's now been over a year, and we're wondering what they do beyond appearing in the browse mode in the Content Viewer. Do they serve any intrinsic purpose beyond giving the viewer a brief summary of the content of an article? Do they somehow come into play when doing a search in the iTunes store?

Editorial spends significant time generating these tags for the articles each month, and do not believe it's worth the time investment.

Can anyone please clarify what these tags do?

Which fields specifically are you talking about? The kicker, department, etc.? Those show in the browse mode of the viewer right now on iOS, and in the progressive download view on Android and Windows.

Hi,

I'm referring to the "TAGS" field.

I know they appear, but do they serve any purpose beyond simply appearing there? It seems redundant with the DESCRIPTION field. We were told the TAGS field would server some other, more sophisticated purpose, and I wanted to know if that purpose had ever been implemented. Our editorial team doesn't see any value in creating the content for the TAGS field if all it does is display in the browse mode. And I tend to agree. The TAGS field is not searchable as far as I know, or is it???

No, the Tags field isn't used for searching or for any other purpose. If specified, tags show up in browse mode, but that's it for now and the near future.
