    Creative Cloud pop up warning

    VladanI Community Member

Yesterday I installed Adobe Illustrator CC and InDesign CC (Mac OS10.9.3). Every few seconds today I am getting a Creative Cloud pop up warning:

Administration rights are required to complete Adobe Add-ons installation or removal

I am really sorry to hear you have encountered this issue. It's very rare but we are planning to release a fix for this in the Creative Cloud desktop app within a few weeks. The cause of it is that when processing InDesign installed plug-ins, Extension Manager attempts to move the plug-in manifest files. If you does not have write permissions on this folder, a request is made for elevation of privileges. In the mean time there is a workaround:

Change the following folder so it is writeable: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/InDesign/Version 9.0/en_GB/Extensions

          > chmod 777 /Library/Application Support/Adobe/InDesign/Version 9.0/en_GB/Extensions

Note the locale/language (en_GB) could be different. In this case en_GB stands for British English, en_us would be US English and so on.

Also please note this appears to be a Mac only issue. I hope that explains the issue and how to fix it but please let me know if you have any problems applying the workaround.

          Thanks,

          Jonathan

Thank you Jonathan. The pop up actually stopped coming after 3-5 minutes, while I was working on this workaround. I can leave with it until the fix release.

Thanks and sorry for the the frustrating pop up which will be going away shortly...

                Hi Jonathan,

I just started experiencing the same thing day before yesterday. I've looked for the en_GB/Extensions folder in path you mention above, but nada. What I do have is: /Applications/Adobe\ InDesign\ CC/Legal/en_GB ...but the file in there is only a license.html file. If setting this folder to read/write then that is great, but I am hesitant to do anything unless this is the correct folder.

I'm running Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.3 and the latest version of InDesign CC. Now that I think about it, I installed and "update" to InDesign a few days ago and after that is when I started getting the error.

Thanks in advance for your help.

                  Hi Stephen,

I think you are looking in the wrong place. From the Finder Go the Go Menu and select "Go to Folder"

Copy and paste this into the address area:

                  /Library/Application Support/Adobe/InDesign/Version 9.0/

You will like see two folders, one is probably 4 characters and relates to the local and language, in that is another folder called "Extensions" Right click on that and choose "Get info" and click the lock icon if required and apply Read and write to each of the groups list. Then close the Get infer window, restart InDesign if it was open and hopefully your World will be bright and sunny again

Let me know if you get stuck...

                  Jonathan

done.  thank you. I'll let you know if that pesky popup bothers me again. :-)

Hi Jonathan, I recently started having this issue on my imac and it seems to be getting worse and today popped up frequently for several minutes. I tried your workaround but my folder is en_US which i assume is the same workaround. CC seems to have issues when starting up and the last IND update caused CC to freeze and I had to restart. Hope this gets fixed in next release!

                        Jonathan,

I followed your instructions, found the lock, unlocked it and change permissions to both read and write. Yet still the little panel keeps flashing like a neon sign. I launched InDesign CC, quit it, and waited. Sure enough, the little warning reappeared. Can you help?

                        Ron

Wait... I got it to stop by clicking on the message. Then a window came up requesting my system password. Once entered, it stopped. I suppose this is the last step that was omitted from the original instructions. At least on my Mac.

                            Ron,

This has happened to me also - most recently on a Mac system with the Tutorial Builder Extension (which Adobe authored).

I deeply do not like the "Authorization Required" pop-up which the Adobe Creative Cloud application spawns without any explanation, but once the authorization is provided then everything does seem OK ...

                              Hi Ron and John,

As mentioned this is a bug which we have fix going into the CC desktop app for. It is due out sand of the month or very early next month along side some other new features and fixes in the CC desktop app. Sorry, if clicking on the toast message or the workaround is not working for you but hopefully that will fix things with the new CC desktop app release.

                                hi Jonathan,

Just to clarify: both Ron and I found that the pop-up can be dealt with (that is, be made to go away permanently) by normal means. The current workaround is not needed if the user can access the OS-generated message requiring password verification.

I also found that the message can be stopped by clicking on the message box itself.  That action will trigger an OS login window, and after submitting login credentials for the computer the message stops.

It's b-a-a-ck. The Creative Cloud tag has returned, even after I followed all the directions and got rid of it a few days ago. This is frustrating, coming after that wonderful presentation by CC yesterday with promises of wonderful new software coming our way. I tried the same routine again, unlocking the lock, changing the permissions to read and write, but the warning continues to flash. Any help available?

I've got it too, on a UK based Mac. I didn't have it before, and the instructions above aren't doing anything to fix it.

Two permissions repairs and three reboots seems to have cured it.

                                            Me too!! (US based Mac)

Jonathan say its "rare", but I'm thinking this is pretty widespread.

I have the version 10 now in the aforementioned folder... Looks like the new version has the bug, too?

Changing the permissions didn't do it for me.

This morning, Creative Cloud came up with this "Error: There was an error with this action. Try again later. 222279aa-be1f-4192-9b8a-85fa73f5de33" and the Creative Cloud drop-down app is stuck on Adobe Terms of Use page that won't budge to be able to scroll down to read, or allow any input.

                                            Help?

jclarx When I wrote that it was rare but I agree the issue does seem to be growing which I can only apologise for. I am perplexed that you are still seeing the terms of use dialog, it wounds like you are at an early and very stuck point the issues may be related but it's hard to tell. The bug has been fixed by our team but we are waiting for the fix to be added to the next CC desktop app release which we hope will be out before the end of the month. If none of the above tricks here work you may be best contacting Adobe support. Again apologies for the frustrating experience you have had here and the time wasted.

Your post did help me get rid of the pop up. But CC is still stuck as I described before. Sigh. Dreamweaver CC was working and for now that's all I need to worry about. Hopefully whatever bug I've encountered will clear up soon. I'm away till later but will try restarting before I repost. This issue probably should move to its own topic next time I post.

jclarx Absolutely no offence taken, I did not get that sense from your post anyway, frustration sure but not aimed at anyone just the annoyance of the situation. Anyway, the bug should be fixed with the next update of the CC desktop app but like I say I am worried you are see the terms of use because that is different to how other people have seen this issue crop up. If you can wait then fine, but otherwise I suggest contacting Adobe support. If you get no luck with them, please let me know.

Although I have not been able to stop the banner from continuing to flash, I got it to stop showing on my screen. If you have tried Jonathan's fix, and it hasn't worked, you might try this: On a Mac, go to Preferences. Then  click on Notifications. You will be presented with a list of various programs and sites that are set up to notify you, particularly Mail. If you scroll down, you should find Creative Cloud. I had it set for "Banners." I clicked on "None," and it stopped the pesky banner. Problem is, of course, I now will see no notifications from Adobe. I am hoping that, when the Adobe fix comes through, changing the banner back to "Banners" will fix the problem permanently.

                                                        • Removed repetitive OS notifications that require admin privileges for Add Ons.

So please update to this latest version and this should help the issue.
