Why does Speedgrade slow down rendering by 4 times?

When I export a video from Premiere Pro CC (7.2.2) of a 1920x1080 to Vimeo HD 720p preset to Media Encoder, a 7 minute video encodes at almost real time at around 8 minutes on my Mid 2012 - 12 Core mac pro with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB (CUDA Enabled) and when I monitor the CPU % for Media Encoder via Activity Monitor, it ranges around 1,000% - great!

I then use Speedgrade and also add a mask to my video for a vignette around the whole shot and it adds the Lumetri effect to my timeline to achieve this; I then render and it takes 1 hour to render my 7 minute video and my CPU for media encoder is now running at 250%

Any idea why the CPU power is reduced to 4 times slower when using the Lumetri effect?

      TIA
