Hi,
I've got a new mac Pro 8core d700 and am using premiere and media encoder heavily.
Until recently I couldn't really use gpu accelerated rendering because of glitches and errors in the renders. But 10.9.4 fixed the issues for me.
Now I was wondering, if someone could explain to me, what exactly the gpus are used for during what processes of the editing with Premiere.
Until now I didn't see huge speed improvements, in fact sometimes even slow downs with open CL enabled. But today I had to scale a 30 minute video down and it was soo much faster using open cl than software.
Also I had a timeline full of proress clips, just edited together and overlayed with a simple title. Playout of this sequence (using original sequence settings) also was way faster than without open cl.
Is the gpu just used during export? Or also while working somehow? What tasks exactly profit from it? For H264 export it seems to make no difference at all.
