Just wondering whether you've tried running your operating system into Safe Mode in order to load the application?
As far as I'm aware, Indesign is generally fairly resource hungry like all Adobe products, the specs on my work system is a i5-3770 with 8GB of DDR memory running on a 60GB SSD and I've had to relocate to secondary and tertiary drives to reduce the load on the primary drive; whereby allocating the cache and file handling performance to those other drives.
Though more recently, I'm running a home-based version of Indesign CS6 instead of CC at work on an Asus ROG G750JZ.
If you manage to load the application in Safe Mode, you might change your "Document Recovery Data" in which should be by default pointing towards "C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Adobe\Indesign\Version 8.0\en_US\Caches\Indesign Recovery" located in "File Handling", second last option on the Preferences list.
Have you restarted the computer? Do you see any error messages other than the not responding? What's the last activity listed in the splash screen before it hangs when you try to launch ID?
I am also having this problem with a 113 page magazine I created. InDesign is not responding but will open nearly any other file. Were you ever able to resolve this issue?
