I think so far only kuler in CC 2014 uses this.
Where can we find the scripting API for this?
Can anyone recommend a tutorial of some kind on how to quickly get a new CEP panel working in AE. I'd like to move toward switching a panel I have which is currently done with ScriptUI. Thanks!!
I'm specifically wondering how to get variable data from the index file into the .jsx file.
Developing HTML5 panel extensions for AE works almost identically to Photoshop et al. The only big difference seems to be that the Adobe Extension Manager doesn't have support for AE yet, which means that you have to configure your computer slightly differently and manually copy your extensions into the appropriate folder.
Some resources to get you started:
In particular, I recommend you download the Adobe CEP samples from github and take a look at the "CEP HTML Test Extension" in depth. You can reverse engineer a lot of that and use it as a foundation to work with. Andy Hall's series of posts (the last link) are excellent and will help you set up your computer to test and run unsigned extensions. Communicating between the HTML5 panel and the host application (AE) is a bit tricky, and the best method currently is to use custom events to pass data and triggers between the two. My thread post here explains how to do this a little bit more, it's tough to get a handle on: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1544497
