Using Stroke to Knockout Layer Below

This is a layer smart object PSD that I've created in CC. It uses Smart Objects as I need others to just drop their work in to it and it automatically add the effects to their work.

This is what it should look like.

This is what it looks like outside of that group and the stroke that I'm trying to knockout of the layer beneath.

The problem I have is that it needs to be used by people with CS5. Is there a way for the stroke knockout to work in CS5 as I know they don't support group blending options.

Hope this makes sense.

A black Stroke clipping masked to a white instance of the Smart Object would allow or using Blend If settings.
Colorizing that stack of Layers could be done by putting them in a Normal Group and using an Adjustment Layer for that.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any chance you could send me that test PSD as I'm just getting a black stroke that's not clipping.
