I'm taking a guess on this, but I would check your temp directory. PS writes info to it, and if PS crashes, it often leaves files there. So you should go through and delete them.
What operating system are you using?
An easy way to find out where the files are is to right click on one of the document tabs of the recovered files in photoshop and choose
Reveal in Explorer or Reveal in Finder
where is the temporary directory?
It's in your scratch disc , in a folder named PSAutoRecover. It seems there is a separate sud-directory for each user of that computer (at least mine does), and would normally be empty.
Beyond manually finding the files for removal, consider this:
Photoshop is supposed to remove those backup files itself after you've successfully closed them.
That it's not doing so implies possibly a permissions problem, where deletions of files from within your scratch PSAutoRecover area by you are not allowed. You'll want to look at the permissions of those folders/files and change them so that you do have access. I'm sorry to say I do not know the specific commands, as I am not a Mac user.
If you tell us what operating system your using. it would be a lot easier for us to give advice on how/where to find the files.
