Thanks for that suggested workaround.
We're looking into this issue now.
I also found that even with the work around, (giving an object a layer style prior to the copy paste)if you copy a layer style to multiple objects AE crashes immediately.
Same issue here. Repeatable crash when copy pasting a drop shadow to a layer with no layer styles set.
v220.127.116.11, PC, win7.
Edit: Workaround works.
I am experiencing the same bug, repeatable, when copying a color overlay layer style to another layer.
The work around works, but not ideal.
18.104.22.168, PC, Win7
I confirm this bug (copy&paste drop shadow effect). In previous version (CC) everything work ok.
I am seeing the same behavior on a Windows 7 PC Running CC. It first happened when I tried to copy and paste a drop shadow onto 8 images. It happened next time I tried it on a single layer. The second time I saved just before doing it....
CC2014 that is....
The problem is that this obviously pervasive bug made it to release to begin with. You guys don't exactly engender a lot of confidence when something so obvious doesn't get caught in the beta phase.
I mean, you guys ARE beta testing this stuff before you push it off on busy content creators...riiiiiight?
BTW, I'm totally looking forward to re-re-renaming all my projects because I updated the software. Again.
They don't seem to have any quality controls at all anymore. They do have people censoring the message boards, however.
I just want to say that I have been an After Effects freelancer since 1999 and it has always had bugs, but they get solved a hell of a lot faster now then ever.
It is amazing that there can be a problem like this, that I just encountered, and the forum gives me a workaround straight away, findable easily with google, and that Todd gets it fixed by the next update.
Thanks to original poster and answers and of course Todd.
Also I would say it is not a big easily noticeable bug.
This is the first time I have ever used layer styles, because, like Shape layers, you have to twirl a million arrows down to edit them.
If this was an Apple bug it would get fixed in 4 years, maybe.
What I REALLY miss is error codes, and Mylenium's diagnosis list
It is great to have AE being developed so much faster than before, and the small bugs are ok by me.
Perhaps a feed/digest/notification of known issues would be good to keep users updated.
Is there a developer feed we could read only subscribe to for instance?
