What version of Photoshop do you have? For that camera, you have to have at least PS CS4 with Camera Raw version 5.2 loaded.
I have PS CS4. How do I check to see which version of Camera Raw I have? (Sorry about my naiveté!)
If you have a file that can be opened in camera raw, you should see what version you have in the top left of the app widow, or if you click on the preference icon. If you can't open camera raw, you can check a file called component.xml. I'm not sure where this would be on a Mac, but on Windows its: in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Camera Raw 7\AMT.
There are several lines that mention the version number such as:
Most likely you should do a search on the web and find a download for version of camera raw that is at least version 5.2 or higher, but lower than 6.x.
In photoshop cs4 you can go to
Help>About Plug-In and click on the words Camera Raw
Photoshop>About Plug-In and click on the words Camera Raw
Anyway, you can get the camera raw 5.7 update from here:
(your installed camera raw is probably a version lower than 5.2)
THANK YOU so much for your help! So, I found that my version of ACR is 5.0.0178....so I followed your link (I'm on a Mac) and downloaded 5.7, which gave me the "plug-in." But now when I click on that plug-in, it opens photoshop and gives me the exact same message! "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." What the HECK?!?
Okay, wait. I think I need to drag and drop the plug-in into the Photoshop folder....is that correct? And, if so, do I drop the new plug-in into the "Plug in" folder that is IN the Photoshop folder? And, if so, do I drop it into a specific folder WITHIN the plug-in folder? Or just put it in the plug-in folder with all the other folders that are already in there?? (Sorry I'm so clueless on this!)
I downloaded the automated installer but it won't install because is says that version 5.7 is already installed. So I tried to UN-install the previous (manual) version (not sure if I did it correctly) but it's still giving me the message that it's already installed. But then when I check what version is running is still says 5.0. Should I go back to trying to do it manually?
Yes, try the manual install.
The profiles are installed by double clicking on the downloaded Camera_Raw_5.7 dmg and double clicking on the cameraprofiles.mpkg
Install the camera raw.plugin by going to (Macintosh hard drive) /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats and dragging the existing camera raw plugin to the Trash.
Then drag the new camera raw plugin from the dmg to the same folder.
I can get as far as Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe...but that's it. There's nothing that says plug-ins. I've looked everywhere in the Adobe folder and there is nothing for plug-ins....
Sounds like your looking in your user library.
You want the root level library.
If in Finder you click on the Go menu then Computer and then click on the name of your hard drive, it is the first Library you see.
Or paste the line below into Go>Go to Folder
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats
Okay, I do NOT know what the (or MY) problem is....I just canNOT get this to work. Now when I open up Photoshop to see which version is there, Camera Raw isn't even listed anymore! I'm going leave my computer now and go cry. But not before I get me some chocolate.
Take a break and try again later.
Someone will still be here to give you a hand.
