1. Re: Conditional text in IDML export broken/buggy
Laubender Jun 30, 2014 3:41 AM (in response to PlainMartin)@Martin – beware of the paragraph sign! Do not mark it with the condition, when no condition will follow in the next paragraph.
[Edit] Ah, you already mentioned this. Sorry. But I have no other solution.
Maybe a small script can assist you in selecting full paragraphs without the paragrah sign at the end, based on a selection?
There should be one around in the net. If you cannot find one, let me know…Uwe

2. Re: Conditional text in IDML export broken/buggy
PlainMartin Jun 30, 2014 4:23 AM (in response to Laubender)Hi Uwe,
thanks. I do try to avoid marking up the carriage returns, but I have to deal with very long documents with a lot of markup and paragraph styles. If I leave out the last CR for a section, and I'm dealing with multiple conditions, I'll end up with dozens of empty lines in some of the rendered PDFs that will break the text flow...
And that bug gets ever more interesting. I just found out it will only occur when you have multiple paragraphs with different paragraph styles applied. If they are all the same, it won't be triggered.
I guess I'll just have to report it as a bug. And hope for InDesign CC 2015.

Laubender Jun 30, 2014 4:57 AM (in response to PlainMartin)Hi, Martin!
Hm…
Is this bug related to CC and CC 2104 only?
If so, you could open the IDML after translation in CS6, that's part of your CC subscription, and save from there. Can you provide an IDML file of your example together with the InDesign file zipped together for download on dropbox (or a similar service) ?

Ah yes. I remember I had discussed something like that in the Feature Request forum:

Conditional Text in Table - Problems with row height adjustment
You could give the paragraph signs special conditions.
Every main condition has its accompanied "paragraph sign condition".
A bit complex to set up…Therefore my feature request in answer #3 of this thread:

5. Re: Conditional text in IDML export broken/buggy
PlainMartin Jun 30, 2014 5:26 AM (in response to Laubender)Thanks. I am using a similar trick (a "stop" condition and a carriage return) to work around the issue. It's just a lot of unnecessary work. This is obviously a bug in the exported IDML, reproducible as such in CC and CC 2014. The whole idea of IDML is to retain all formatting, and this seems to work with pretty much everything except for conditional text spanning multiple paragraphs as described here. Therefore, I'll file a bug report with Adobe.

6. Re: Conditional text in IDML export broken/buggy
Laubender Jun 30, 2014 5:40 AM (in response to PlainMartin)"pretty much everything" is correct. "Everything but conditional text" would be dead wrong. There are also other problems with IDML. Even when used in the same version of InDesign (exported and opened). Some things can change. Even page sizes when setting a page rule to "Size" if you are using liquid layout features with Alternate Layouts.
See for that here:
Saving out as IDML for previous versions of InDesign causes alternate layout problems.
And there are other bugs as well. There is one severe one when using spot colors with tints on text, if these colors are used through styles that are based on each other. The text formatted will get a 100% tint (instead of a different one) in the moment you open the IDML file in InDesign.

Laubender Jun 30, 2014 5:57 AM (in response to Laubender)The bug with the spot color in IDML is documented in the Swiss/German forum Hilfdirselbst:
Alex
Volltonfarb-Problem: Farbton zeigt 100%, Farbtonfeld ist aber auf 85% angelegt.
