Silly or not, my understanding is that the programs are not DESIGNED to use network files, and therefore they do not always work with network files
If you use files on the computer's hard drive does the same thing happen?
Also, next link says After Effects, but check YOUR permissions !!!
Is there an official response from Adobe stating that their software spec doesn't allow for saving files onto a network share? I'd be real interested to see a non-user based response of this, so far it's been post after post of people saying something similar to what you have and I find it really hard to believe that's the case.
Previously I have had users do just that process that you linked, I did not have this user do it today, I'll do so now to see if it has any effect or not, will post results as I get them.
