I am trying to mask out a video of water by using a diamond shape with a translucent center, as seen below.
I imported the illustrator file (I prefer to make the shapes with illustrator, not after effects) and created the vectors from the file in after effects.
I know this is probably really simple, however I can't seem to get the shape to mask out the video behind it. I tried turning the vector into a mask, then copy and pasting into the video layer. Nothing seems to be working.
Can anyone help me out with this?
You can use the AE shape layer as a track matte, but it has to be moved to the layer DIRECTLY ABOVE the one that needs the ransparency.
Thanks Dave!!!! Exactly what I wanted. I'll have to spend some time with track matting in the next couple weeks.
There's also the Set Matte effect which doesn't require the layers to be in any particular order.
