Confused about missing file warning LR 5.5

    onyonet

I keep seeing the "!" warning on photos in LR 5.5 and am unable to resolve the problem. I'm on Mac OS v10.9.3. Here are the steps that are confusing.

      1. See the "!" box on photo
      2. Click the "!" and the Locate dialog pops up stating "_filename" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? Under that is the Previous location path.
      3. Click Locate button
      4. Finder pops up
      5. Find the file>highlight it>click select
      6. The Already In Catalog dialog pops up stating "The file "filename" is associated with another photo in the catalog. Each file can only be associated with one photo.
      7. I have to button choices: Show in Library and OK
      8. Click Show in Library and the photo is now alone in the Already in Catalog area
      9. Right click and select Show in Finder
      10. The indeed is where I want it to be

So the question here is, why the "!" on my photos? My end goal is to add this photo to the Stack of other versions of the same photo, all of which are in the same folder as this photo.

      Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated,

      Daniel
