Crop bitmaps when saving as a SVG?

Hey there I have this image where I want to just export the area that is the number 1 slice area (click the image to get a larger view).

      heading.jpg

so I've tried slicing, using the artboard, etc but when I save as a SVG the vector object comes out at the right height and width, but the bitmap part comes out at it's original size (ie it covers that whole image which is hidden by the number 2 slice vector) whereas I want it at the cropped to the same height as the vector object.

Or do I just have to go into Photoshop and make sure that bitmap is at the same height as the vector object and re-import it into Illustrator?

      Hopefully I've made sense.

      Thanks in advance.
