Link Button back to Base State

I have a base state and a created another state call 'appState'. On the appState, I have a button that I want to link back to the base state. I've tried different ways and am unable to link it back to the base state of my application.

I get this message when i use the "currentState='' to link back to the base state... also, on my appState page, i also have another viewStack, i'm not sure if that interferes with linking it back to the base state or not.

RangeError: Error #2006: The supplied index is out of bounds.
