I'm not sure I can help you but you should supply more information so someone here can...
Windows or Mac?
Do you know where the LRcat files are stored? have you tried launching LR by double clicking on the catalog file itself?
Do you have a recent catalog backup you can try to open?
Answering these questions might help you solve the problem or at least it will help someone in the forum aid you...
The only recent catalog its showing me is from 2013... I cant open the files for the LR due to the message popping up still when I try to find files.. I have done I think everything I can.
And this is on Windows 7
I've never used windows, so hopefully a windows maven will jump in, but let me ask you a couple of other questions:
- can you launch the lightroom app? does it launch and then show this message? I'm trying to figure if the app is a problem or the LRCAT file...
- if the app launches, does it show the LRCAT filename on the very top center of the screen? is that the name of the catalog you expect? If not, can you search for the lrcat file that you expect to open, then double click on the actual LrCat file to launch LR.
- if you do not know where it is or should be, go to LR catalog settings (slightly different placement in windows vs. mac - probably in the file menu) and under the General tab, it will show you the location, click on the Show button and it will take you to the file. Look in that folder and you should find xxxx.lrcat and xxxx previews.lrdata. this is the lrcat file to double click. if this does not work for you, then you must search your hard drive to find your local backups and try launching one of them (the 2013 date is probably the original creation date of the catalog, but hopefully you are set up to do periodic local LR backups?).
The next resort would be to ask if you have a complete hard drive back up and restore from that, but you probably have thought of that already...
Sorry if this isn't enough to help, but it's about all I can add to trouble shooting on windows.
Thank you I think from here my best choice will be to pay them to have it fixed.. Its very upsetting that I have to pay when I have put so much money into adobe.. but I guess thats my only option
I guess the only other thing I can think of is to reinstall the app.
But you have to find the LR cat location to solve this.
Got my answer from Adobe!!! ok so Click START, click on COMPUTER, click DRIVE C, then file USERS, then your main computer file as mine was my name, then APP DATA, click ROAMING, click ADOBE, then LIGHTROOM file, then PREFERENCES, click on the catalog that is not working and add _OLD to the last part of the name, click YES, close out then go to your lightroom and open it, it will say create a new catalog click yes and walllll lahhh it opens with all of your saved presets a fresh lightroom with no imported photos, but thats ok you can import them again!!!! I am so relieved!!
JR- So glad you made it work. Sorry I didn't know more about the file system in windows.. Hang in there!!! Tom
