    Needing help to import 40,000 + images

    sparky21

      So, a long time user of a competitive product, which went EOF.

      I exported .xmp files, in the format provided below. Lightroom imported the information almost fine, but missed two critical elements:

      The date of the photo and the Keywords associated to each.

      Date shown as "<rdf:li>1982-12-22T17:39:38</rdf:li>"

      Keywords shown as "<prism:keyword>

      <rdf:Bag>

      <rdf:li>Uncle Ian</rdf:li>

      </rdf:Bag>"

      With 40,000 Plus photos to be managed I am really interested in trying toget Lightroom to resweep the .xmp's to try to pickup these two critical fields.

      Would be extremely grateful for any and all assistance. Not quite sure what my next move should be. Can't see a presets field that I can use to redo the importation, to assure correct importation of the two critical missed types. Now that the 40,0000 photos are in Lightroom, can IO go back and run another import job to pick up only the two fields that were missed per photo, or do I have to delete them all and start again?

          It might help to understand the context but let's guess you're moving from Aperture. Is that where you entered the PRISM metadata or did it come from elsewhere? Did you see the info in Aperture? I know it moderately well but don't recall seeing PRISM stuff, so help me out a bit please.

          Lightroom will have read thst data, not recognized a standard IPTC/IPTC Extension field, and would have stored the unparsed data in the catalogue. It won't display the info in Lightroom, but it will include the data if you export the file as a JPEG, for example.

          Where are you getting the date from? I don't see it in your xmp. Have you tried saving the metadata to the files in Aperture? Try this, and then use Lightroom's Metadata > Read Metadata from File to bring in the new data. This may help as LR expects some info to be in the file, some in the xmp.
