I'm working on a manual that was a conversion from Quark (converted using Markzware Q2ID) and am having trouble with InDesign crashing when I try to create a Table of Contents. I've tried different versions of InDesign including CS4, CC and CC 2014. I've tried on different PCs and different user accounts. All fonts are associated fine in the paragraph styles and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. In several other chapters of the manual the TOCs update fine with the same exact styles. I've even tried replacing the definitions with styles from the chapters that work and nothing.
I've also moved the pages over to a new document and it seems to carry over the same problem.
I'm at a loss of what to do aside from clearing everything and reapplying each style by hand. Please help.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that this was one of the first things I've tried as well as resetting all InDesign settings.
Next thing I would try is export the story to InDesign Tagged Text. Place the tagged text into a new file, copy it all to the clipboard and paste into new frames in another new story (probably this last is not vital, but it won't hurt, and may help). Either copy into the existing document, or make a new file to replace the one with the problem.
