1. Re: Trying to edit text in layer which is unlocked - Please Help! S.O.S.
Mike Schertzberg Jul 10, 2014 9:46 PM (in response to Infused Muse)I had a look at the download, the words are not text, the layer is rasterized. Go into the Layer Style dialog for the ".psd" layer (Layer 2) and save the layer style by clicking the New Style button. You can now apply that layer style to a new text layer that you create. (Hide the ".psd" layer). You may have to modify Layer 3 by painting onto it with a very soft brush at low flow rate (like 3%) to get the multicolour effect.

Infused Muse Jul 10, 2014 9:56 PM (in response to Mike Schertzberg)THANK YOU SO MUCH BY THE WAY! YOU ROCK!!!
I just responded on the thread... here's what I wrote:
I figured that out since I posted this, so what I did is copied the styles of both backgrounds and am now creating a new doc with text, applying both styles that I saved, then converting to shape - where I'm super stuck now is how to create the outline - here is where I'm at:
I know how to convert to shape... just after that can't figure out outline....
Here is the screenshot:

3. Re: Trying to edit text in layer which is unlocked - Please Help! S.O.S.
Mike Schertzberg Jul 10, 2014 10:02 PM (in response to Infused Muse)If you make a selection from black text, you can stroke the selection on a new empty, transparent layer to get an outlined version of it, then apply the layer style to that. (it wont be editable text anymore though...)

Infused Muse Jul 10, 2014 10:09 PM (in response to Mike Schertzberg)Sorry, I'm just a dunce... Lol
I created a new layer with black text... I went to stroke, now I'm stuck.
I understand what you are saying, it's just the steps that I'm stuck on... I will try and google!
You're awesome for helping me...and not laughing.

5. Re: Trying to edit text in layer which is unlocked - Please Help! S.O.S.
Mike Schertzberg Jul 10, 2014 10:14 PM (in response to Infused Muse)You need to turn the text into a selection. Use Select -> Color Range with only the black text visible (or magic wand or something else) to create a selection of the text. Then in a new transparent layer, Edit -> Stroke to paint an outline around the selection. Now you have bubble text....

Mike Schertzberg Jul 10, 2014 10:23 PM (in response to Infused Muse)Sorry, you won't see the stroke unless you hide the original text layer. You probably want to use a higher pixel thickness for the stroke as well. 1px is pretty thin

Infused Muse Jul 10, 2014 10:33 PM (in response to Mike Schertzberg)Hi there... I tried 250 px and hid the black layer, still nothing. Do I keep the stroke at black? I can't get the option of the white box with the red line inside of it...

9. Re: Trying to edit text in layer which is unlocked - Please Help! S.O.S.
Mike Schertzberg Jul 10, 2014 10:40 PM (in response to Infused Muse)A black stroke is what you want. I think you overshot it with 250px, I was thinking more like 4 or 5px but that will depend entirely on the dimensions of your document. Start small and redo it with a bigger size if it looks to small. A white box with red line is actually No Stroke.
I've got to check out for the night, good luck : )
