    Freeze Portion of Video

    guest1235412

Does anyone know how to freeze a portion of a video, while the rest of the video is in motion?

I have 3 second video of a man standing next to a moving wheel. He is not standing perfectly still, so I want to freeze him completely, but maintain the movement of the wheel.

In example of the effect I am going for can be found here: FFFFOUND! | (5) Tumblr

In that video the crowd is frozen, and the model/photographer is in movement.

      Many thanks in advance!

First you need to learn how to do rotoscoping. After Effects has Rotobrush which will go a good job with lots of shots. The procedure is duplicate your footage, roto out the main subject so only that subject is on a single layer, then time remap the masked layer so the actor is either moving very slowly or not at all. The second step is to fix the background of the bottom layer and do any masking of folks that pass in front of your subject. Then it's just a matter of cleaning up the edges and fixing any overlaps.
