I'm a new user to InDesign (CS5). I'm looking for a way to change the background color of areas of text without changing how the text flows, and while only changing the background color certain portions of the frame. I tried cutting the text and pasting it as a new frame, but I couldn't get it to flow as if it was still part of the main text flow. If I need to use new frames, I could use a tutorial on how to thread a new frame into an existing document and have it all flow properly. I'd prefer a way to simply change the background for only part of an existing frame, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
A frame can have only one background color.
You could create a graphic in another program (e.g., Illustrator) which would give you what you want, then overlay a text frame on top of it.
