Perhaps nobody has a good answer? This seems pretty clearly to be either a bug (not my number one guess since we are not flooded with reports), or a configuration or software conflict issue on your system and you should try things like turning off non-Adobe plugins, booting into a new user account, and starting up in safe mode.
YES.. Many discovered that it is both a BUG and FONTS..
I removed a new font that I had installed a few days ago.. NO crashing on startup, NO disappearing text.
Fine, but it is definitely a problem that InDesign cannot handle a mangled or corrupt font in a better way.. We ALL have corrupt fonts for sure in our massive font libraries, but before this version of ID, it didnt stop us dead in our tracks!
If it didn’t you can chalk it up to luck. Corrupt fonts have been causing issues since dinosaurs roamed the earth.
