That's because your Photoshop Elements edits aren't in the Lightroom catalog. If you modify an image in Photoshop Elements without sending it from Lightroom, there should be a little icon on the image indicating that the files don't match. You can, to read the adjustments from the disk.
Basically, you are running your workflow backwards. You should start in Lightroom, and then choose to "Edit in Photoshop Elements". Lightroom will send the image to Elements, and when you are finished in Elements the edited version should be in Lightroom.
I actually didn't word the first post correctly, I do use the edit in Adobe Photoshop Elements command in Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop elements opens and I finish what I am doing in there and then save the file and then close elements. When I go back to Lightroom the file isn't corrected. I have to re-import the file into Lightroom
