I have a document with auto page numbering set up on the master page (very large). When I override master page items on the document pages and detach the items from master, then move a page, the auto-numbering still updates itself ? we are working on a huge pdf that has a lot of interactive links between pages, once you move a page it becomes very hard to keep track of what has moved where so we are having to label the pages in order to keep track during clients changes.
here is a test file showing the problem.
and here is a screenshot to explain what is happening.
any suggestions, am i going mad or is this a bug in Indesign ?
No bug - the auto-page-numbering is doing exactly what it is designed to do. It doesn't matter whether it's connected to the Master or not, the Current Page item will always show the actual current page. Watch what happens in your pages pallet when you make a change to the moved page 4 - it will update to show page 3, as it should.
If you need numbers that will not change when the pages move, you'll need to use something different.
thank you. I guess the pages pallet not updating to reflect changes was what was making me think otherwise.
