Which printer, what OS, using App manages color or Printer manages color? Did you do a nozzle check?
Thanks for the nozzle nudge! Epson Stylus Photo R2880, Windows 7, printer
manages color. I've never done app manages color. Should I? I completely
forgot to use nozzle check, and once run found the heads needed cleaning.
Vast improvement. Image colors appeared normal except that the face was
more red than on my Sony Vaio monitor.

I use a Canon printer, but color management is basically the same regardless of printer brand. The choice of whether you let the printer or the application manage the color is yours. Just make sure you don't allow both to do it. If I allow the application to manage the color I need to make sure I choose the appropriate profile for I paper in the application, but I still need to choose the paper "type" in the printer driver. If I decide to let the printer manage the color then I need to indicate that in the application, and then make my profile choices and paper type in the printer driver. I find that I get identical results either way.
Thanks for your advice, Jim. It helps clear the air. I'm going to print an
image using each method and then compare.
