    DWCS6 - can't edit in Code view {subject edited by moderator}

      In the split view or the design view, I can edit text anywhere on the page but when I click on the code side the text is grey and line number bar turns blue. Is there a way to turn the editing back on in the code view? Working on a PC with a document created on a mac.

          Are you working on a child page created from a DW Template file?

          Look in your source code, right in the beginning of the code, maybe line 2 or 3, you would see something like this...

          <!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/my_awesome_template.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->

          If that's there, you are working with a child page created from a DW .dwt Template file. If you are unable to change the code, it's because it is not within an editable region. The original .dwt would need to be changed, and the child updated, to unlock more areas for you to hand code in them.

            Can you still edit that gray text in Code view? Anyhow, paste your page's code into a reply here and we can tell you in a jiffy what's wrong (email won't work - you must post your code in the web forum).

              No, it won't let me edit in the code at all.

              Here's the code:

                As Jon suggested, this page is definitely the child page of a Dreamweaver template -

                <html><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/OCVR.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->

                You must edit the template to do one of two things:

                1. Change code in a way that appears on *all* child pages, or

                2. Change the template so that all child pages are editable in the region where you want to make the changes

                If you don't understand these two alternatives, you should read and understand DW's F1 Help about creating and using Templates on your site before you do anything else. They are NOT intuitive.
