Output Module and Render Settings template names do not currently support Unicode characters.
Unicode support is being added to After Effects progressively, over several versions, as each text field in the application has to be updated separately. There are over 130 different text fields in After Effects, and about 4/5 of them have been converted. The release notes for each version have generally not called out these changes because they tend to be minor, but a major step was completed in After Effects CC (12.0) of supporting Unicode in file names and paths (see the "Unicode conversion for robust support for characters" paragraph).

I was wondering how the get the emoji stuff working. like how to use AE to render an emoji? Could u provide some insight?
Emojis are working fine in titles and stuff. but could u render a video with emoji?
I don't think AE supports colored fonts. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)
But there is a normal black & white font created that contains emoji:
You will need to convert them from WOFF to OTF using this online converter: https://andrewsun.com/tools/woffer-woff-font-converter/
If AE supported SVG-OpenType, you might be able to use these: Color fonts from Adobe Type
Right now, it appears only Photoshop CC2017 supports it: Typekit Help | OpenType-SVG color fonts
