If you buy the subscription model, you would have to have an internet connection, namely for the software to contact the mother ship at least one every month to reactivate itself and to take advantage of all the automatic updates.
If you buy the slightly older (but still sold by Adobe and its resellers), perpetual-license CS6, then you need the internet only for the initial download, and to update it periodically at your pleasure.
If it's a permanent license you would need an internet connection for download, activation and updates.
Creative Cloud, download, updates and anytime the app needs activation by sign in. Usually you can go without an internet connection for 30 days before it needs online validation.
Any internet connection will do, even a wi-fi hotspot at a cafe.
Thank u both for such fast replies...I guess I'm old school and want to make sure I can use it without being online. So when I purchase I just have to make sure there is license.

Both the monthly subscription license and the perpetual license are exactly that: Licenses.
