    Retaining text-formatting from email message

    Amikoe Community Member

I'm a graphic designer. Most clients send me their formatted text (plain, B, I, BI) in a Word document which I will import to InDesign, allowing me to use their formatting to create the text in my layout.

But some clients (sadly enough, those older ones) listen to my directions, say yes, then send me their text FORMATTED BUT IN THEIR EMAIL MESSAGE...

My question is, how can I retain those Text formatting for usage in my page layout?

      Thanks...

There is some hope, depending upon your e-mail client.

If you use Outlook and assuming that they have formatted their e-mail as RTF or HTML, you can save the e-mail as HTML and then open the HTML in Microsoft Word and save that for placement into InDesign.

For other clients, you can often successfully copy and paste from the e-mail client or web browser e-mail client into Word and then into InDesign.

Beautiful. I simply copied and pasted the text into a Word document, saved it, and then placed the text in an ID document, and it did retain all the formatting.

...Why didn't I think of it before?...

...I was a bit hasty... I don't use Outlook, I use Apple's Mail program... I tested it creating MY OWN formatted text in Mail, and then did a copy-n-paste into a Word page... but when I found real text from clients' emails and copied their text, the formatting was ignored, it turned out plain.

              So I'm still wondering...
