How to shorten "Recent File" names?

Is there any way of telling InDesign that I DON'T need to see the complete path to my files when I try to Open Recent?  All I need is to see "test2.indd" but instead I get:

      "Macintosh HD:user:yournamehere:desktop:workload:jobs:current clients:ACME designs:work files:variations:co..."

and by then the actual file name is off the screen and I have to open all of the recent files in order to find the one I want.

This is stupid.  Seriously stupid.  A "What the hell were they thinking?" kind of stupid.  A "We're shoving this in your face and you'll like it!" stupidity that happens in large corporations.
