Where did you buy the number? Not on Craigslist, I hope.
I bought it from the Adobe website.
An upgrade serial number will also require the previous version's serial number. Is the serial number you're entering the LR5 one or the LR4 one and presumably you have LR4 on the computer or at least have LR4's serial number to enter as well?
Thanks for the thoughts/ideas.
I had LR 4 on the same computer, and I did have my LR 4 serial, but no opportunity to enter it anywhere. When I input the LR 5 serial number, is just said invalid.
As it worked out, it seems (can this really be true) that the trial version doesn't give you an opportunity to use an upgrade serial #? Well, I'm not sure. But I used the link that came with my newly purchased LR 5 serial number and downloaded a fresh (non-trial version) copy of LR 5. When I started it up, it asked me for my serial number. When I entered it, it then (properly) asked me for a serial number of a previous version of LR. Interestingly enough, it pre-filled this in for me, and then I was all set.
Why I couldn't do this on my trial version, I don't know. But all is good now.
Thanks to all for sharing your perspectives.
LR is a trial version before it is licensed but not a trial after you’ve entered the serial number to license it. Without knowing where you got the original LR you installed that didn’t work and the one you installed that did, it’s hard to say what is different between the two, but something obviously was.
It is normal for an upgrade to find the serial number of a previous version that is still on the computer. The license number is in a text file, so it’s easy enough to find.
Thanks, ssprengel. I got both the trial version and the final version I installed from the Adobe website. I also got LR 4 from the adobe website.
I agree with all of your statements. When I entered the LR 5 serial number in the trial version I expected it to ask and then pre-fill the LR 4 serial number. But no such luck. I'm very puzzled by it, but its down now, so I'm not going to spend too much more time worrying about it. But it would be nice to know for next time!
