I want to insert a page in Acrobat XI, but I do not want the Page Thumbnails to display

I find that my document editing becomes trickier when I insert a page, because the Page Thumbnails display. This new feature throws me off because I cannot navigate via arrow keys with the thumbnails open (I can bypass this by pressing Right Arrow and then Enter, but that is very inconvenient).

To compound my problem, when I want to insert a document before the page that is on the screen, it sometimes does not work because there is a different page selected in the Page Thumbnail, which I can understand if I were to purposefully choose the page in the Page Thumbnail, but I navigate via pages directly, so I end up insert documents before the wrong page.

Unfortunately, I cannot just dismiss the pane with the Escape key. I have to click within the Page Thumbnails pane to dismiss it, which takes time as I move my hands off the keyboard to the mouse. If I could just prevent the Page Thumbnails from displaying in the first place, I would be able to perform my tasks so much more quickly.
