JimHess Aug 6, 2014 9:02 AM (in response to AshleygraphicsCA)Not possible. Just collapse the folder and ignore it.

areohbee Aug 6, 2014 2:59 PM (in response to JimHess)What Jim said. I mean, there is a way to hack the program to get rid of them, but then they come back next update - not worth it in my opinion.

3. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
antermoia Apr 6, 2018 12:21 PM (in response to AshleygraphicsCA)Considering that with the latest Lightroom update (7.3) there are now FOURTEEN folders of built-in presets, this has become an issue for me. It's a colossal waste of screen real estate and just like the OP, I never use any of these presets anyway.
I do have my own presets that I do use all the time so I don't want to collapse or entirely hide the presets section altogether.
Sorry for digging out this old thread - it came up as the first result when I did a search, so... :-)

4. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
ManiacJoe Apr 6, 2018 1:25 PM (in response to antermoia)As a workaround, I named my folder of presets with "z_" at the front so that the folder is at the bottom of the list, right next to the edit history.

antermoia Apr 6, 2018 2:29 PM (in response to ManiacJoe)That's a good idea, thanks.
Would you happen to know if there's a feature request for this? After researching myself a bit it seems that these presets are hard-coded into the Develop module - that's just mind-boggling...

You could add your constructive opinion and vote to this six-year-old feature request: Lightroom: Ability to delete the default develop presets | Photoshop Family Customer Community

7. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
Bob Somrak Apr 6, 2018 5:43 PM (in response to AshleygraphicsCA)My presets panel now ONLY contains MY presets and NONE of the adobe ones. See here how to do it. The preset system seems to have changed in Lr 7.3 and most can be officially hidden and the classic ones deleted.

8. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
antermoia Apr 6, 2018 6:21 PM (in response to AshleygraphicsCA)I FOUND IT and they can be removed! Presets and Profiles alike (personally, I don't have ANY use for the modern/vintage/artistic and b&w profiles, nor will I ever). Restarting Lightroom does NOT seem to restore them (phew) so make sure to make a BACKUP of the files before you delete anything, just in case.
On Windows, the files are in TWO locations, one for Lightroom (the presets) and one for ACR (the profiles). I zapped the stuff from both locations and they're GONE! Yay!
These are the two locations for Windows:
c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic CC\Resources\Settings\
c:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings\Adobe\
If someone could provide the locations for Macs we're done and this can be marked as answered. :-)

I forgot the link. Re: Converting Presets to XMP W/ LR C CC V7.3.

DdeGannes Apr 6, 2018 7:47 PM (in response to Bob Somrak)What happens with users of Lightroom that do not use the option to write to .xmp files?

If you use the ACR hide method showen by Ian Lyons in the link in my post #10 tne NEW presets should not get reinstalled. The Classic profiles will probably have to be deleted after every update. Adobe needs to allow deletion or hide of these presets within Lightroom. They take up WAY too much valuable space in the left panel And as far as I am concerned they are not very useful.

14. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
Bob Somrak Apr 8, 2018 8:24 AM (in response to antermoia)Adobe should have a delete option instead of just hide but this will work ok. Hopefully they will include the hide option in Lr 7.4 to keep Lr and ACR in sync. It’s nice to have a CLEAN presets panel after all these years.

15. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
SeanMcCormack Apr 8, 2018 12:11 PM (in response to antermoia)We're not for Mac, because I've deleted the internal versions of the Adobe presets from 2 locations within the Lightroom program. I suspect I need to find them in CameraRaw as well... now to try that.

16. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
SeanMcCormack Apr 8, 2018 12:17 PM (in response to SeanMcCormack)Now.. I have deleted the internal version inside the Lightroom package file.. but the external ones are located at
Machintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings/Adobe/Presets
NOTE: this is ROOT folder of the start disk, not the user folder.
Delete the Presets folder. Leave the Profiles.

Bob Somrak Apr 9, 2018 7:32 AM (in response to SeanMcCormack)Sean
You can HIDE all of them except for the CLASSIC ones using ACR. On the Mac yoou then only have to delete the Classic ones from the location I listed in the linked thread. Then all thr preinstalled presets are gone.

18. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
SeanMcCormack Apr 9, 2018 7:46 AM (in response to Bob Somrak)My location deletes them all Bob. I'm also not afraid to delve inside package files.

19. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
Bob Somrak Apr 9, 2018 7:51 AM (in response to Bob Somrak)Thought I would put this all in one thread for clarity
1) HIDE all the built in presets except of CLASSIC. (This is a clip from Ian Lyons)
2) You can delete the CLASSIC presets from one place. (at least on the Mac)
On a Mac the CLASSIC XMP presets you need to delete are in /Applications/Adobe Lightroom Classic CC/Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.app/Contents/Resources/Settings/Adobe/Presets/........
3)After doing the above two things your built in presets are gone from view!!!!. I don't know why the hide is in ACR but not in Lightroom but maybe it will show up in 7.4.

20. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
Bob Somrak Apr 9, 2018 7:57 AM (in response to SeanMcCormack)I'm not afraid to delete them either but they will probably come back in the next update using DELETE. Hopefully a future HIDE in Lightroom will take care of the problem with the CLASSIC presets as ACR can not SEE the CLASSIC profiles to HIDE for some reason. probably because the Classic one are only in the package. The built in presets have gotten totally out of control with over a dozen folders taking up valuable preset panel space.

21. Re: How do I remove or hide default lightroom presets?
SeanMcCormack Apr 9, 2018 11:59 AM (in response to Bob Somrak)I could write a script to remove them. It’s not an issue. The quantity of them isn’t an issue either. It’s that they're stuck at the top of the panel.
