What version of LR, 5 or something older? Not sure what setting up Cloud, means. If you bought a boxed LR, then it wouldn’t be the cloud version.
You can download the latest version(s) from here:
Yes, it's LR 5. Just purchased the MacBook Pro 4 days ago and didn't realize there was no disc drawer (ha, ha, dopey me). So I searched online to see how to install this new software and someone said to download the LR trial and then enter I would be able to enter the serial number off the box. Couldn't download the trial w/o first setting up "creative cloud".
Ok, maybe what they’re calling Creative Cloud is merely your Adobe ID, an e-mail and password to login with. The LR5 6 update link is probably what you want to download—all updates are downloads, anyway, so there’s no need to have a disc reader as long as you have internet and the serial number.
Here is the LR 5.6 update for a Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5822
Another issue might be that what you think is a serial number is a redemption code that needs to be converted to a serial number using this website: http://www.adobe.com/go/getserial A clue that you have a redemption code is that it has letters and numbers. A serial number is just numbers and the first few are 1160-something.
Came across some addt'l info that has me uninstalling the trial version and then going to the LR 5 updates, hopefully when it asks for the serial number at that point it will be a go, wish me luck!
As far as I know, the LR update will run as a trial until you enter a serial number, but if you had installed another version of LR older than LR 5.6 it’s just as well to uninstall it before putting LR 5.6 on the computer. In other words it doesn’t hurt to uninstall the previous version but it should be a problem if it was already there, either.
Now, if you originally installed LR from the Creative Cloud then that version wouldn’t work with your boxed serial number and shouldn’t even ask for a serial number because it is licensed by logging in with a valid subscription and a LR-CC version would need to be uninstalled before installing the LR-standalone version which is what the update link should lead to.
