Duplicate the mask. Edit each duplicate separately.

But i can't command click to separate the one mask.

Rick - This is a great method thank you but there must be another way to "break" one into two.
You can only open or close a mask. You can't slice it in After Effects.
That's unfortunate. When you have a minute, check out the tutorial i linked. The guy command clicks while he's drawing a mask with the pen tool. It separates it. How does that happen?
I think Op means to do something different. I can't be sure because no screenshots and the description of the problem is vague.
Michael - if your question is: how can I stop drawing one mask and start drawing another - like the tutorial - you can do that by Ctrl (or CMD on Mac) somewhere else OR you can press shift + F2. this will deselect the mask but keep the layer selected so you could draw another mask.
