Thanks Jeff. If I get hung up after the next update, I'll take a look at the log. I don't receive any messages, just spinning pinwheels. Force quit is a dead end. But as I said, once I go through the crash and reboot, After Effects works fine. (The hang, by the way, is always when the splash screen says "initializing media core.")
