Importing CR2 files from a card reader to a macbook air has been working fine but recently started corrupting files on import. Rebuilding the previews sometimes works. Files are stored on new external HD (WD 1TB) which verifies ok. Importing to same HD on our imac works fine. I note the previous discussions on this being a hardware issue. As it is fine when done on a different mac it is unlikely to be the HD or LR itself.
Any advice on where to look for the fault gratefully received.
Many thanks

Perhaps iffy ram.
If it was iffy RAM would you not expect the same thing to happen with previously imported files? This has not been the case. The macbook air is only 4 months old and was fine until rcently. we did use a new card reader recently but the corruption occurs now with the old one. Could this be a problem with the USB port - if so how can I check it?

More than likely yes (good point), although not necessarily.

Definitely worth trying a different USB port (there may be a diagnostic, but I'm not aware of any). And also a different USB cable if applicable.
