What OS are you running. Generally, you have to set your OS to Reader to be the application associated to pdfs. The method of doing so depends upon which OS and its version number.

Thank you for posting on the Adobe forums, kindly try the steps mentioned below, hope it helps.
1) Open Adobe Reader>edit Preferences (Windows)
2) Go to>General under categories menu and click on select default PDF handler and choose Adobe Reader, you would see Adobe Reader installation bar going Across and it would be done.
You can CTRL+click on mac>get info>Open with and change it to Adobe Reader.
Michael, thanks for your reply. I apologize for not including that important information. I am running Windows 7 with the Service Pack, and it is current on all updates.
