1. Re: Correct name of L in HSL color model
G.Hoffmann Aug 15, 2014 9:32 AM (in response to Alper Tonga)I encountered HLS = Hue, Lightness, Saturation the first time here:
(1) J.Encarnacao, W.Strasser (diacritical characters simplified*): Computer Graphics, Oldenbourg 1986
(2) Foley, van Dam et al: Computer Graphics, Addison-Wesley 1990..1993
(1) contains an early reference to Wyszecki:
G.Wyszecki: Farbsysteme. Musterschmidt, Göttingen, 1960.
(1) and (2) mention Smith:
A.R.Smith: Color Gamut Transform Pairs, Computer Graphics., 12, 3, Aug.1978
It's safe to say, that L means Lightness. Luminance is a physically measurable quantity.
Lightness is used in HLS in the same sense as in CIELab.
Luminosity is a somewhat vague Photoshop nomenclature.
Using HSL instead of HLS is merely misspelling, quite common though.
[*diacritical characters: ordinary characters with tilde and accents etc.)

3. Re: Correct name of L in HSL color model
Alper Tonga Aug 15, 2014 2:06 PM (in response to G.Hoffmann)Hi Gernot ... I'm very happied to see you here again.
Thanks a lot for the reply.
For the Adobe part of my question ...
I've not calculated them ... but I think that Adobe uses all of those different terms in their right meanings.
It is indicated in the PDF reference that luminosity blending mode uses Rec 601 Luma coefficients ...
I think that luminance in the ACR uses ProPhoto coefficients for converting linear RGB values into the luminance value (Y) ...
And, on the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer in Ps, I think that L is computed by the lightness formula in the HLS color model.
I would be very grateful for a verification or a correction from an Adobe engineer.

4. Re: Correct name of L in HSL color model
jdanek Aug 15, 2014 6:16 PM (in response to Alper Tonga)HSL color model? Never heard of it. Nevertheless, I interpret HSL as Hue - Saturation - Lightness. Obviously, the "L" can stand for different things depending on the context it is used in ( as you've displayed already in your post ).

G.Hoffmann Aug 15, 2014 11:41 PM (in response to station_two)Thanks, station_two, for the completion.
In fact I have already a list of key codes ALT+number for Sonderzeichen
(diacritical characters) here on p.3:
http://docs-hoffmann.de/sp-pron-30032011.pdf
But until today ALT+0227 for ã was missing...

Very glad to see you here again.
