I am new to InDesign and am learning quickly. I research before I ask but can't figure this out and don't know the terminology to look further. Two issues that are probably the same:
1. When I feed a word doc, or create a new text box, I have an extra gutter (?) on the left side that I have to remove with the Text Wrap (see below) every time. I don't want anything on the outside edge ever.
2. The same thing occurs every time I place a photo in the doc. I have to remove the preset width with Wrap Text one every photo. Each photos has to be individually set with the edges depending on it's placement.
Is there somewhere I can turn off these extra edges? I looked in preferences but don't see anything. (are they called gutters?)
Perhaps you have text wrap on by default for new objects? With nothing selected, check your text wrap settings. All wrap should be off. If it's on with nothing selected, then all new objects will have text wrap applied.
