I have been advised to upgrade my version of adobe digital editions.  I am worried that my current library will be lost.  Secondly will I have to re-activate my system?

Upgrading your version of Adobe Digital Editions should not override your existing library and you should not have to reactivate either.

You would only have to reactivate if you deactivate it before installing the new version.
