1. Re: Automating PDF Generation with Server-Side Acrobat - Benefit, Risks, Suggestions?
lrosenth Aug 21, 2014 6:39 AM (in response to James Igoe)You cannot use Acrobat on a server - so its a non-starter.
Adobe, however, has a product called LiveCycle PDF Generator which is designed for server-side PDF generation.

Test Screen Name Aug 21, 2014 6:42 AM (in response to James Igoe)While the SDK is useless for your proposal, it does not seem to be out of date, it seems to apply to the current version, Acrobat XI.

James Igoe Aug 21, 2014 6:51 AM (in response to lrosenth)Any idea of the cost? A quick preview looks like it might be overkill for our needs.

Test Screen Name Aug 21, 2014 9:29 AM (in response to James Igoe)The product replaced Distiller Server, but does much more than that. That used to be $5000-$10000, I believe, but LiveCycle products are a custom quote.
The price is set high partly because it can replace a whole office full of Acrobat licenses, one reason (but not the only one) why enterprise level products are in a different universe pricingwise. I'd expect to pay at least to match 100-200 lost sales of Acrobat.
