1. Re: LR applying outdated metadata preset on folder sync.
ssprengel Aug 28, 2014 4:08 PM (in response to Gavin Farrington)If you are adding JPG images via a folder synchronize operation then you ARE doing an Import, just not via File / Import or drag-and-drop. Different cameras or filetypes can have different defaults set. Do you have a LR default set for JPGs that includes copyright metadata? A way to check this would be to import a JPG via a regular File / Import and see if the same behavior occurs.

2. Re: LR applying outdated metadata preset on folder sync.
Gavin Farrington Aug 28, 2014 4:32 PM (in response to ssprengel)There's the key piece of info. So LR remembers different import presets based on file type?
Running two experiments.
First, I'm importing a folder of JPGs that I know already have 2014 copyright via the Import GUI (not synchronizing folder.) The import interface opened, and the "Apply During Import - Metadata" drop-down was set to my 2014 copyright. If LR remembers import defaults based on file type, then I would have expected to see it set to my 2013 metadata preset.
Just for science, I'm importing a folder of DNG files that are also already set to a 2104 copyright. For these files as well, LR defaults to my 2014 copyright.
Am I not running the test the way you intended? Any other ideas on why doing a folder sync would apply an old metadata preset?

3. Re: LR applying outdated metadata preset on folder sync.
Gavin Farrington Aug 28, 2014 4:36 PM (in response to Gavin Farrington)In both tests above, when I backed out and did a folder sync instead, LR adamantly reset my copyright to 2013.

Seán McCormack Aug 28, 2014 7:32 PM (in response to Gavin Farrington)I think we're missing something, because you're doing the right things Gavin.
Check the Preset definitely says 2014 internally.
Check if there's an embedded copyright in the files that are being read (though LR should still supersede this).

5. Re: LR applying outdated metadata preset on folder sync.
Gavin Farrington Sep 3, 2014 8:28 PM (in response to Seán McCormack)Hi Sean. Sorry about the delay.
Yes, it definitely says 2014 on the Import GUI. It says this right off the bat every time I open it (meaning it's not opening to something else and requiring me to change it manually - 2014 is the default.)
My cameras do embed copyright in the files, but both are set to 2014. Also, a PhotoMechanic inspection of the DNG files themselves plus any JPGs exported from the DNGs confirms that the files have 2014 in them. It's only after I right-click and sync folder that it flips back to 2013, and the Metadata panel in Library indicates my 2013 Copyright preset.
{Edited for clarity.}

6. Re: LR applying outdated metadata preset on folder sync.
Seán McCormack Sep 3, 2014 9:14 PM (in response to Gavin Farrington)I'm guessing you don't have 'Show Import Dialog' selected.. I wonder if something isn't sticky in the Import via the Sync that's doing it.

7. Re: LR applying outdated metadata preset on folder sync.
Gavin Farrington Sep 9, 2014 8:31 PM (in response to Seán McCormack)That was it, Sean. I haven't used the "show import dialog" option in ages, but LR was remembering the last metadata preset I used anyway. Apparently it remembers this setting separately from doing a normal import.
Thanks for your help.
